Santa Fe Pet Scoop
Santa Fe is truly a pet friendly community filled with a wide range of resources, services and even an annual Pet Parade past the Historic Santa Fe Plaza during Fiesta in September of every year. Two other major events are the Assistance Dogs of the West Graduation Ceremony at the Lensic Theater in May of each year and the infamous Bark'in Ball, an annual Fall fundraiser for the Santa Fe Animal Shelter and Humane Society.
The Santa Fe Dog Park is the place where newcomers and Santa Feans alike go meet and let the dogs run off leash. Officially the Park is named the Frank Ortiz Park Off Leash Area. It is located on Santa Fe's Northside adjacent to the Casa Solana residential neighborhood. Owners are expected to scoop the poop and help their dogs mind their manners. Here is how you get there easily. Take St. Francis Drive or 84/285 in town north just past DeVargas Mall to Alamo. Make a Left on Alamo and a right on Las Crucitas Street. Follow the road up the hill to the large field park on your left. Bring your camera as the landscape is magical and a bag for scooping poop.
Like any pet friendly community, the City of Santa Fe has rules or ordinances for pet owners. If you live in a condominium community or a subdivision with a Home Owners Association, check with the board or management to find out what if any limitations there may be on you and your pets.
